Bike tour itinerary for Shimla, Spiti, and Leh
Upon arrival at Delhi airport, meet our representative and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi.
Start early in the morning to avoid city traffic as you drive to Shimla. Stop for lunch at the scenic Parwanoo before continuing your journey to Shimla. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive to Sarahan, once the capital of the Bushahar Empire. This small village is surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful Deodar forests. Visit the Bhimakali Temple, known for its unique design and detailed carvings, which blends Hindu and Buddhist styles. The Sutlej River flows nearby, and you can enjoy views of the snow-covered Shrikhand Peak. Overnight stay in Sarahan.
After breakfast, we leave Sarahan and head deeper into the stunning Kinnaur and Spiti Valleys. Ride towards Wangtu, then continue to Karchham before turning right to Sangla, a charming village known for its trout fishing. Located on a slope with houses stacked on top of each other, Sangla offers amazing views of the Kinner-Kailash Peak. It’s also famous for the historic Kamru Fort, which is now home to the Kamakshi Temple.
After breakfast, take your time to backtrack to Karchham and drive to Kalpa. On the way, pass through Powari and continue to Recong Peo (7 km). Both places offer breathtaking views, making them some of the most scenic spots in Himachal Pradesh. Enjoy the stunning view of the Kinnaur Kailash Mountain Ranges along the way. Kalpa, located at an altitude of 2,670 meters, is also known for its high-quality Chilgoza. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
After an early breakfast, start your ride along the Sutlej River, surrounded by lush green forests. Drive 18 km from Powari to Ribba, a region famous for its Kinnaur apples, grapes, and grape-based alcohol. You'll cross several bridges along the way. Next, ride towards Puh (40 km) on the paved Indo-Tibetan road, following the Sutlej River. On clear days, you can see snow-covered peaks in the Pin Valley Range. After passing the Puh cantonment, continue to Khab (11 km), where the Tabo and Sutlej rivers meet, creating a unique sound. Navigate through hairpin bends for 24 km on a paved road until you reach Yangthang. This is the gateway to the Land of Lamas. From here, the road becomes rough, with mud and river crossings until you reach Chango (3,658 m). Drive another 8 km through arid land to Sumdo, and then another 9 km to Hoorling. Finally, ride 24 km to Tabo, where you can visit the Tabo Gompa, founded in 996 AD. It’s home to some of the best-preserved Indo-Tibetan art. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
In the morning, begin your ride to Kaza (3,600 meters), about 47 km from Tabo, and then continue to Kibber, 18 km further up. Visit the beautiful Kibber Village (4,025m) and the famous Ki Monastery (4,116m). Although the distance to Ki isn’t far, you’ll need to climb over 1,000 meters on a tough road. Ki Monastery is the oldest and largest in Spiti, offering stunning views. Afterward, ride down to Rangrik and then through a barren gorge for 30 km to Hanse (3,950m), a village clinging to the cliffs. The road is unpaved, and villages are sparse along the way. Continue another 20 km to reach Losar (4,079m). Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay camping at Losar.
Start your day with an early morning ride to Kunzum Pass (4,551m), then head to the stunning Chandratal Lake (4,270m), which is about 12 km from the pass. Spend some time soaking in the breathtaking beauty around the lake. Afterward, drive through Batal, Chatru, Gramphoo, and then to Tandi, stopping for lunch along the way. Continue your journey to Keylong. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at the hotel in Keylong.
After breakfast, drive to Jispa-Darcha and navigate through the winding roads into the Higher Himalayan Range. Once you reach the top of the gorge, continue towards Himmatnagar Cantonment. You'll encounter unpaved sections with hairpin bends at Patseo and ZinZing Bar as you approach Suraj Tal. Next, drive to Baralacha La (4,883m), then descend to Bharatpur. Enjoy your packed lunch before entering the Sarchu gorge. After crossing the bridge, you'll enter the Sarchu Plateau (4,100m), where the cool, refreshing breeze will relax you. Dinner and overnight camping at Sarchu.
Today, you'll enjoy a long but enjoyable ride. Ride through the plateau area for the next 30 km at a good speed, but be careful of rough patches on the road. Start early to navigate the Gata Loops and climb up to Takh (3,950m). After that, it's a downhill ride. Cross a low-lying stream and then ascend again to Lachung La Pass (5,060m), about 54 km from Sarchu. Drive downhill for 25 km until you reach the bridge before Pang (4,630m). Make sure to cross Pang before 12:00 noon, as traffic isn't allowed after that. Then, cross Tanglang La (75 km from Pang) and continue for another 30 km to Rumtse. After that, proceed to Leh, the heart of Buddhist culture. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.
Today is a free day for your personal activities and bike maintenance. Leave your bike with the mechanic and take some time to explore Leh. Visit the 16th-century Leh Palace, once the seat of power, the beautiful World Peace Pagoda, and the lively local marketplace.
In the morning, ride to Khardung La, the world’s highest motorable road, located at 18,380 feet (5,602m). The ride will take a few hours as you climb out of Leh. After exploring the area, return to Leh. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Take an early morning flight from Leh to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi, transfer to the international airport for your onward flight.
